Unique in France: a staircase pivoting in a wooden cylinder, leading to a small Renaissance-era room at the top of a tower. The moving atmosphere of the logette (1538) occupied in 1636 by Pierre Fourier, a famous priest from Lorraine, who gave his all and fought until his death in 1640 against the horrors of the 10 Years' War (1635-1645).

Construction of this hotel started at the end of the 15th century by Guy Gauthiot and was completed by his son Simon, provost of the Emperor Charles V and a person of great influence from 1538 to 1548. The transition between Gothic and Renaissance is interesting to note. It is at the back of this building that the famous Tour St Pierre Fourier is located. This house now is home to a restaurant with special character.

On the southern façade of the Hôtel de Ville, a fine engraved dial, graduated in 1/4 of an hour, dates from 1560. On the bell tower of the basilica, a high marble meridian is dated 1836. In the park of the ‘house for all’ rue Victor Hugo, you will discover an analemmatic dial of 12 m in diameter on the ground.
This circuit will take you to the discovery of the numerous sundials of the Haute-Saône on the walls of the churches, the facades of the houses, on old manors or even on the ground. You will discover, among other things, the face of the façade of the Renaissance Town Hall of Gray, the church of Mantoche, at Oyrières or Pesmes ... The patrimonial fund originates from the revolutionary seizures made in 1789. Most of the manuscripts and incunabula come from the religious communities of the city and its surroundings. The library contains about 25,000 volumes. Transferred to the college of the Jesuits at the beginning of the 19th century, it is then installed in the current building specially built in 1858, near the Town hall.

The first fortress was built in 1292 by Eudes de Fouvent, to protect the ford over the river Morthe. The wars that ravaged the Franche Comté region destroyed it many times, but it was always rebuilt and always inhabited. Remodelled between the 17th and 19th centuries, the work was carried out by Baron de Klingin and the de Menthon family, owners since 1832. This family, whose Savoyard origins date back to the 10th century, has always been associated with the history of Franche Comté.

Built in 1716 by order of Louis XIV, the Hôtel Dieu was completed in 1747 and enlarged in 1854. The pediment is adorned with sculptures by the Graylois artist Grandgirard. Founded in 1722, the apothecary received a remarkable wood panelling decoration in the last third of the 18th century. On the shelves are 119 earthenware pots from the 17th to the 19th centuries (cannon jars, flattened bottles decorated with yellow lilies and black foliage, pills, etc.).

The original church of the twelfth century, destroyed during the wars of Louis XI, was rebuilt between 1478 and 1559. The western façade was only completed in 1863 with the neo-gothic porch. The tympanum, hammered at the Revolution, was carved by Grandgirard. The interior of the building is very representative of the late-Gothic of the region. The pillars without capitals receive directly the edges of the vault, lack the intermediate level between the large arcades and the high windows of the central ship of the nave, and there is a typical search for verticality ... Dating from 1842 on the site of a former chapel, this church hall with 3 naves of 5 bays vaulted in full arch, a wooden pulpit with palmettes and gilded evangelists, of empire style.
Left chapel with an empire altarpiece with ionic columns, 4 beautiful gilded wooden reliquaries from the XVIIIth century.
Right-hand chapel with identical altar and painting, 19th century rosary, and 2 gilded wooden statuettes from the 18th century: Saint BARBE and Saint MARTYRE
On each side of the choir, there are two small paintings from the 19th century: "Ecce Homo and Vierge de douleur".
In the hamlet of Sainte Cécile, there are the remains of an old chapel with ogival windows. The emblem of the Knights of Malta can be seen there.
It seems that this chapel was built on the site of a miraculous spring and an old cemetery (reputed to cure blindness).

The 2 symmetrical wings constitute the 18th century pavilions. It is a remnant of the old fortress (10th century). The fortress consists of a keep, a huge 4-storey building. There is a parish church from 1230. In 1362, the "écorcheurs" seized the town; to make them flee, the town was destroyed. King Henry IV stayed in the castle for 10 days. During the 10 years war, Pesmes was ravaged. Louis XIV conquered Pesmes and spent the night of 15 February 1668 there. At the beginning of the 18th century, the castle was modified and is one of the most beautiful in the province. It is undoubtedly from this period that the staircases linking the stables date. These were sold in 1794 and destroyed.

The building, built in 1729 by Jean-Baptiste Anthony (1690-1760) to serve, taking advantage of commercial navigation on the Saône, as a grain and wine counter (3,600 m2 of floor space), has marked the life of Arc-lès-Gray in various ways: it was the seed of urban planning in this sector of the town and the precursor of the large trading houses that would later be established along the "chaussée d'Arc" and on the Villeneuve quay (built in 1822). The Anthony's were rich metalworkers from Vienne in the Dauphiné. They bought the seigneury of La Folie - the eastern part of the commune of Arc-lès-Gray bounded by the Saône and the Ecoulottes - and settled permanently in Burgundy Franche Comté (Jean-Baptiste Anthony leased the forges of Seveux and Baignes; he was the head of the grain and wine trade in Arc-les-Gray; his two sons, merchants like him, were appointed secretary to the king at the parliament of Besançon; several members of his descendants were at the head of important forges in Franche Comté: La Branleure, Echalonge...; they were postmasters at Arc-lès-Gray; they owned part of the Clos-Vougeot vineyard; most of the warehouses established along the Villeneuve quay at the time of its creation bear Anthony's name). The building was divided on 26 Vendémiaire, Year V, into three lots acquired respectively by Aimé Riche, François Coustet and Denis Degrand. The third lot, bought in 1882 by Louis Rossignot, creator of agricultural machinery, was passed on in 1889 to Alphonse Dagot, author of the "Dagot foundry". This foundry operated until 1973, working for local industries and the Parisian market, but also for Alstom in Belfort.
